We are talking wet. The track, the cars, the crowd, all wet, from persistant and almost torrential rain that preceded and almost lasted through the meeting. However some work had been done on the circuit, so although the track was slippery, it had fewer bumps than some folk have complained of in earlier meetings.

Russ Dean (76) won the Rebel National Championship, the first item on the agenda for the Rebel racers in a race that could have gone many ways but for the lack of most of the grip that would normally be there, which led to many a spin and an early pile up on the start. This appears to have been why Darren Clark (3) and Dave Yapp (77), who had both seemed to be dominating the race early on, suddenly appeared a fair way down the field, but then they were hardly alone in that. This pattern was repeated in the second race which went the way of Steve Shaw (361) while Clark (3) took the feature final, Pete Jenkins (16) running out of time in the closing stages in a last quarter chase.

The wet track also stirred things up for the Saloons, with Wayne Moseley (717) picking up pole position by winning the first two heats. He picked the first up easily - well, as easily as anyone could in the circumstances - while he had to beat off Willie Barnes (126) for the second. Dave Aldous (499) took the third heat in a close finish. However, any idea of a heat and final that either Moseley or Aldous might have had sank into the mud as both end up smacked out. Moseley did the initial dirty on Aldous at the start, while a pile up too many left Moseley in the dirt conveniently placed by the pit gate. The race itself came down to a last gasp dash between Kevin Shinn (121) and Nick Houghton (293). They crossed the line locked together in a slide that almost took Houghton up the wall, though he managed to steer away at the last second. The race was judged to have been won by Shinn.

The Bangers had the first crack at the sodden track, the first race - a novice qualifier - going to Alan Jones (43) while visitor Emerson Fairweather (388) (sp?) took the second heat (or first heat, whatever!) beating out Dave Tuffin (117) as the wrecking started to mount. The consolation was a little more controversial as (702) crossed the line first and with all seeming wel, the reds came out only to see him take Sparky Mark Whittaker (67) head on right in front of race control, which put the race win down to second place Martin Scully (372) with only two other finishers leaving a 23 car line up for the meeting final. Scully ended the final with Dave Lewis (37) in his side while Pete Lewis (35), now with a hastily painted red top over his previous checks showed the crowd how he got that checkered roof last year with a hard drive through the field to second, Ricky Korpiela (142) dangling along behind, though neither could catch the eventual winner, Andy Davies (147). The win only goes to make the situation at the head of the points chart more interesting with only October to go and Davies and Tuffin within one good days' racing of each other.
