With a new curfew imposed by the track owner, the folks at Mildenhall had to rush a bit for the June 26 meeting which did have a few stoppages, on three occasions due to fence damage as the racing and more importantly the wrecking came on thick and fast, pouring scorn on those that have criticised the track for lack of hard action this year.

The Saloon Stocks had a big bashing night of it, killing the fence on turn two in their first race when both Barnett (511,512) cars were fired in by Steve Webster (401), taking the post down. That race was awarded to Kevin Shinn (121) but as to whether he actually made it there, I have no idea with the action going on down the field to keep my attention. The second heat went the way of Mark Gilbert (33) but drive of the night had to be the push to the front by Willie Barnes (126), taking the lead after the restart in the final after clearing the two point rollover by (19), and then having to shake off John Smith (16) and Nick Houghton (293) to eat the fence after finishing, guided in by Paul Tuppen (2). The aggro didn't stop there as Julian Smith (216) seemed to go mad on the pit bend, fencing Shinn to great roars of what might have been approval, not to mention a few taps after the race between Smiths, possibly to cool the whole situation down.

Meanwhile the first leg of the RDC vs. Spedeworth Banger Challenge got off to a flying start, propelling RDC into a lead from which Spedeworth could not pull them with a win for Davey Cox (119) followed closely by Dave Vincent (22) in a 40 point haul, ex-RDC Gary Madgwick (33) man getting the best score in the race with third, 15 being all S! could amass. Indeed this race was the undoing of a few Team Spedeworth cars, though the best hits came in the later races. Paul "Gizmo" Totham (287) did well for Spedeworth, winning the next two races but without enough racing support from the team which was being progressively spanked into oblivion, the second race seeing an awesome jacking for Dave Canham (224) by Vince Wolf (8) while only five cars survived the third race, two Spedeworth to three RDC, as a home straight pile up churned the shale before Roddy James (517) put Mark Glenister (700), a Spedeworth driver that had taken a few out up to that point, into the remains of Mark Coopers' car (564) ready for a full natter jacking by Dave Palmer (53). Open season was declared on tailgates and boots as the hits came in thick and fast from there on including a double by Mark Burbridge (347) and Daren Wolf (9) on Neil Peters (414). All that was left was to see what was left to race in the allcomers' fourth heat and with 17 Fen Tigers hitting the track to Spedeworth's 12, it was pretty much a foregone conclusion as the jackfest continued. By halfway there were seven Fen Tigers on the move and nothing else, Sonny Sherwood (348) leading the eventual six finishers home to a massive 143 point to 52 point victory. RDC might now look to the August 1 return match at Yarmouth, but their sights are now set on other targets, and PRI folk in attendance looked on with interest, while Martin Brunson (537) assured Michael Coventry that they would easily recover in the return match.

The accumulator did see the return of two Spedeworth cars, but after Darren Jones (409) got a shot in on the cut and shut A60 of Jason Colbert (21), both were put out of their misery by Mark Burbridge (347) and (317). With the field decimated after the heavy days' wrecking, Sherwood's fast failing car given a last wreck with Palmer, Cox led four home before turning on Richie Ahern (100) and killing his own car with a nutting, Mark Cooper (564) died after exchanging butts with Vincent and Ahern expired with no further hits on the home straight.

Even the exhibition in-line pairs race, set up for ITV's "Don't Try This At Home" turned to controversy as third place Sherwood, teamed for the event with Martin Brinkworth (2), managed to finish the race with a second stoppage when they sent Marcus Ballard (214) and teamy (314) into a spectacular synchronised double rollover along the back straight, the race going to Pete and Dave Lewis (35/37). The television volunteer, paired behind current track points leader Dave Tuffen (117) crashed out early, causing the first stoppage. She was unhurt but did not restart the race.
