The weather was atrocious before the meeting which meant a muddy track for Mildenhall for the June 12 meeting. The BriSCA F2's were first out and, therefore, got the worst of it, most of the speed being achieved by scrabbling about on the concrete infield strip which, following the first race, they were told not to do. Therefore brown was the colour of the day as the heats became a lapscorer's (and reporter's) nightmare as the nicely turned out open wheelers turned into perambulating mud piles, Mark Simpson (871) trudging through the field to win heat one, Bert Finnikin (559) grabbing what little traction to win heat two. However the rain stayed off for the meeting itself, so the inside line started to dry out, the racing becoming a little more realistic by the time the non-qualifiers hit the mud for the consolation, though the outside bends still took their toll including overenthusiastic attacks from folk such as Mick Kemp (366), the racing also getting close enough for the odd lockup. Stuart Finnikin (55) won the consolation in the end. The final was a little fraught with both Mark Taylor (790) and Johnny Hall (326) blacked when they managed to rip bits out of each others' cages, though Taylor's finish was precipitated by his run over the top of a spun David Hemstock (204). Andy Ford (13) had the lead in the late stages and with all the go in the world, Bert Finnikin was unable to catch him before the race ended. Taylor tried to make up for his bad final performance in the Grand National qualifier but just as Finnikin had done in the final, so Taylor did in this, his final lunge at Gary Fox (48) being foiled by the dead car mid way across the home straight.

Dave Tuffin (117) picked up more points in the first Banger heat as he won in the mud which meant minimal rodding and plenty of hits, albeit weak ones. It was the second heat that drew the most attention, however, partly for an excellent back of grid win by current track champion Sonny Sherwood (348), partly for some of the hits including an interesting solution to the head on problem by (290) but also for the material on track, including the Talbot last seen in the wreckage of the pre-70's, a couple of Westies that were apparently a week late, while the Bad Company who were behind the multi-memorial fielded a Grannie hearse and limo combination. Indeed Dave Miller (166) handled the hearse well until the last couple of laps when a fencing and a trip to the "lake" on turn four seemed to kill it off, from what I saw by killing the steering. A ninety plus Banger turnout meant an extra heat and consi, the extra heat being taken by (270), then the consi's which turned into big wreck fests, Michael Croxton (215) just failing to get his Maxi home first, Mick South (489) getting the win, the other consolation going to RDC champion Dave Vincent (22). However Sherwood was back to his best, although erratic in direction as he piled through to win the Brian Wheeler Memorial final, then repeated the trick in the Accumulator, though two track fires stopped the race in the Accumulator. The remaining runners were sent on their way once the fires were dealt with, and with Sherwood out of the way, the last car award for the Danny Sutton Memorial had to be split between the Davies boys, Andy and Shane (147/158).
