The meeting had its good points. A monster turnout of cars which flooded the pits and spread the meeting by one heat and one consi producing a 36 car final (before anyone asks, yes, BBA rules WERE in force) with material ranging from the usual A60's and Trummys to a late booked Sunbeam Talbot 90 (145), Mark Simpson (136) in an Austin Somerset, a stretch Mk IV Zodiac for Justin Woolner and (all car restoring fanatics may now bow their heads and give a moments' silence for the passing of) a 1949 Standard Vanguard. (247)

Colin Dancer (907) was declared winner of the first banger heat after a late rollover, with another A60, this time Jason McMahon (290) driven getting the well spread second. I should mention that all the races were affected by the rain, especially the torrential downpour that separated the smart and unusual car parade and the first heat which made the track slippy, though luckily not boggy. After a heavy third heat, won by Graham Kerry (42) which would prove to be the first part of a heat and final double for him, Richard Cosby (167) celebrated his Minx's win in the extra fourth heat with a victory spin of Dave Wallis (600). Wallis' Prefect was to get some more attention during the meeting! Rob Murchie (184) got some respect back for the Triumph driving brigade in the first consolation, with Graham Smith (55) getting the heavier second consi which saw the almost complete destruction of Darren Lee's Hillman Hunter (78) and the previously mentioned Prefect of Dave Wallis. It should be said, however, perhaps a testament to Ford and the Rootes Group back then that both cars were resurrected to play their part in the Accumulator Qualifier at the end of the meeting! Graham Kerry (42) led Darren Herbert (236) and Steve Cassar (241) home in the final, Cassar doing very well to recover from an early dumping. Cassar was also given the win in the Accumulator Qualifier, though only by virtue of completing more laps than anyone else, the last car running beung Graham Coe (515) who had spent much of his time trying to put the rest of the field out, especially Cassar who, upon the final hit, expired in a cloud of steam. Talk about prima donna!

The Reliant racing was incredibly difficult to follow as cars soon all turned brown in the mud, though Swalley Buckley (422) took a trophy in the warm up heat, stopped twice due to rollovers, with the final going to Shane Davies (158) ahead of Richard Dickerson (187) and Chris Barnett (512). Len Brinkley (169) got the Helter-Skelter while the reigning champs Keith Rolph (111) and Andy Davies (147) were relatively quiet, Davies A selecting to drive the Davies Preparation works stretch Robin which was noticeably less able, though it was impressive.
