An overcast day at Arena Essex at the start of two days of action saw Chris Smith gain heat and final in the last qualifying round of the Groom Motorsport Supreme Championships, easily sprinting away from the field in both races before crashing out of the Helter Skelter race, won by Mick Collins. The other heat went to Dave Lamb following a great run through the field, while Chris Fuller took the honours in the Consolation.

The Outlaw Hot Rods gathered in numbers to compete for the British Championship, taken in a stalled race by Perry Clack, though he also drew the ire of the starter during a waved yellow period during which he refused to slow down. He finished ahead of Simon Smith who won the second heat, and Dave Fry who won the third, while Stu Hammond took the first heat after leading most of the way only to be pushed on turn one by Robin Pickett close to home, for which Pickett picked up a one-place penalty.

It seems incredible that the Ministox should have picked up enough to justify a full programme of races, but with the swelling in number of white top drivers, that is exactly what they got at Arena Essex during the August 25 meeting. It led to a nailbiting final, won by Samantha Hayfield, and a mad Allcomers' race at the end with almost the entire pit emptied onto the circuit! Travis Cope survived to win that one. The heats went to Colin Thorndyke, who put in some good efforts right through the meeting, Anthony Lawrence, holding Danny Rolfe at bay, and a consolation win to Sam Warner.
