Barry Goldin added to his collection of titles by winning the BriSCA F2 Stock Car English Championship at Arena Essex, July 21, managing to grab the lead late in the race ahead of Gary Ellis who put in an inspired performance to hold off other worthies that pushed the Sudbury regular hard all through the race. Peter Hobbs came in third, topping off a good meeting which also saw him take a win in the first heat, the second heat win going to David Polley. The consolation went to Martin Coles while Steve Green finished his day with a win in the Grand National Qualifier.

Jason McMahon returned to Arena Essex, July 21, grabbing the annual Martyn Symes Memorial Trophy for Bangers in what became a hard fought event which included some devastating hits, one of which left Paul Eve's estate totally flattened. The Final and Rawlins wrecking provided contrast with the heats, won by Stephen Hale and Andrew Davies, which were somewhat lacking in hits; the Rawlins was won by Chris Trickett while Mark Ruskin managed to restart his wreck to batter the field into submission to get the last car entry to the October final.

A bumper crop of Lightning Rods meant an extra race at Arena Essex, July 21, with much of the racing dominated by drivers that are not seen at the front of the race often. Mick Mulcahy was one such, taking a hotly contested meeting final ahead of consolation winner Ray Harris. Al West returned to the Purfleet tarmac to get a win at first time of asking in the first heat, Martyn Jones taking the other heat while Brian Orriss raced well from the back to win the Helter Skelter race.
