In brief |
| Andy Brown emerged victorious from the hard fought National Championships for 1300 Saloon Stock cars at Arena Essex on May 20, a contest that saw many other star grade drivers battling to stay in the running including former World Champion Steve Jackson who had to make do with third behind Pip Williams after coming to grief close to the end. Derry Monk took fourth. The meeting had been scrappy all the way through, Jackson having to qualify in the consolation and again only in third with James Stace grabbing that race while the heats went to Andy Brown and Sam Shudall, the latter driver also winning the allcomers' race at the end ahead of Richard Austin while Derry Monk had to fight off Sam Holland for third. |

Retard Roy "I'll never race at Arena again" Bramley (726 - Si) pays a return visit, especially on the rear end of Chris Clark (597)! |
A better than hoped for turnout for the Bangers bought them an extra heat at the May 20 support drive at Arena Essex, though defending Drivers' Champion Sonny Sherwood has finally broken his duck with a final win this meeting. The Rising Stars race at the start saw Den Catmore, Jason Mills and Dean Kingsworth grabbing the three top spots, getting them a place in the finals, while Andy Davies clocked up another win in the extra race, the redesignated consolation going to Chris Hussey in a hard five car finish. Hussey and Sherwood would then finish behind Tony McDonald in the Rawlins qualifier, Phil Rumsey getting the last car award after Sherwood repeated his feat of the previous evening at Mildenhall, his car finally running but crippled which saw him give it up, this time in a pile up on turn four with no steering while Rumsey battered his last opposition into deathly silence. |
