In brief
Easter Monday was this years' date for the Small Van Banger Championship at Arena Essex, with a surprising number of vans turning out including Kevin Elmores' "Menace" van which got the crowds' vote as smartest van, and later also carried off one of the heat trophies too. However a smashing final event - in all meanings of the word smashing - left the title for this year with Roy Laybourn while Jason Randall took the other remaining heat trophy and Mark Newman scored his first win of the year in the Rawlins 2000 qualifier in a Midnight Runner whitewash, Squeek Francom taking the last car award while Luke Radley got a special award for his antics as the best performer in the event.

The Lightning Rods turned up in force again at Arena Essex on Easter Monday, something of a surprise given the number of Lightning Rod meetings that day. Lee Morrow got an automatic grade change as he won the final and the allcomers' event, John Clarke ran away with the first heat, and John Christie put in a good drive in the consolation.
