Group A Hot Rods
The Group A Hot Rods lined up for the first time this season at Arena Essex on March 19 with an early win for Chris Selleck, though the fight for places behind him was heated, the Jim Richards Corsa unable to close while Chris Fuller made the most of a mistake that took new boy Vic Bilkey and Wayne Mansell out of the running. Mansell made up for it in his second heat, going up the ranks to lead home from David Evans. Mark Browne managed to outpace Adam Smith's early dash, then made it a double when he repeated his performance in the allcomers final. Notable appearances were Gary Finch in a Corsa and an A40 conversion for Lee Fishwick which certainly had some go and continued the long line of unusual Group A's which includes Ben Cooper's Imp and George Demetrious's Minor.

PRI Hot Rods
Three races for the PRI Hot Rods on their first outing at Arena Essex on March 19, with Roy Rawlins having a good day of it with a second place finish in the warm up behind Colin Crocker, then a win in the main race holding Paul Simmons off. A wide corner from Crocker in the last race allowed Stu Hammond and Dave Hitchen to go ahead with Rawlins pinned down in fourth.

National Bangers
March 19 saw the return of the White Top starter race with a restructure of the popular Rising Stars series at Arena Essex for National Bangers, with fewer overall meetings but more qualifying races. As with the previous series meetings races, the first three of each of these races will be sent through to the October 22 grand final, with a £1000 pot.

The first of these went the way of Mark Ruskin, though not without much intevention from Tommy McGurk and Harry Rawlins, while Dean Ryan put his non-ford reject from last week, namely one Morris Oxford, to good use including a big jacking for Terry Donovan. Clive Killick and Del Waterman picked up the other two spots in the October final.

Then the experts came out to play, the lead scrap between Bob Sterling, Jason Jackson and Danny Wade being resolved when Steve Davies sliced Sterling out, Phil Stevens then hitting him, while Wade went inside Jackson to get the lead and eventual win. While father was busy sorting out the leaders, however, Chris Whiteman was putting son Andrew Davies under fire, the t-bone effectively putting both cars out as Whiteman reversed into the shale and promptly got stuck. Around 43 cars took on the final but only 9 survived as Clayton Meffen got the wrecking started with a nut on Neal Wells, John Drummond similarly took Donovan on and Jackson gave Richie Ahern a piling as the corners clogged up. Whiteman was on to the Davies again, this time the target being Shane, though the biggest hit was after Sonny Sherwood spun John Roofer into the path of Dean Bateman who stove in the passenger side full natter. While Sherwood went on to get second spot, it was double time for Wade. Andrew Davies returned for the Rawlins 2000 qualifier only to be promptly squished on turn one while John Harris took a black flag only to start in early on the destruction, though Mark Amato managed to survive a shot to win before the destruction real where Amato managed to stay in one questionable piece, outlasting Billy King to grab the last car award as well.
