Group A Hot Rods
It was Supreme Championship time for the Group A Hot Rods on October 3, with the title going the way of Gary Finch as expected after gridding on pole alongside Dave Imber. The last chance race, however, went the way of Andy Beverton as Vic Hope, leader for all but the last two laps, suddenly slowed for no apparent reason, sending the cars behind him scrambling for clear track as he limped off. The first three drivers of the Championship race itself managed to burn off the rest of the field to the point where Finch finished the race sitting behind Gary Rouse, who was running in fourth! However, Imber and eventual second place Tony Moss were hard pressed to stay in shouting distance of Finch. Jim Richards won the hard pressed consolation round after first past the post Dave Devine took a contact penalty then all came out for the meeting final which was controlled early on by Wes Graves until he blew up close to home in a race that was stopped midway when Moss flamed up. The final went the way of Lee Follett with Barry Miles behind.

PRI Hot Rods
A slightly bigger field for the Robert Follett Memorial for the PRI Hot Rods at Arena Essex on October 3 saw a flag to flag victory for Philip Mansell in the first race, a good performance given his run of mechanical bad luck in previous meetings. Julian Scott followed with Paul Simmons just losing out to Stu Hammond, finding out yet again how hard the Arena armco can be. Mansell repeated the act in the Memorial final while second spot Rick Fray held off allcomers in second with Gary Andrews, Simmons and Dave Fry swapping spots behind him, Andrews eventually pinning third down. Stu Hammond picked Andrews off inside early to go in front to win the "cool down" race with Scott in tow, though Andrews held his own for all other takers.

SuperBangers
The SuperBangers returned again on October 3 at Arena Essex, going for the points on offer as the season began to run out. Brian Orriss jetted home ahead of Jamie Dyckhoff and Dave Kingsmill in the first heat while Nigel Hepburn picked a win up in the second heat, just avoiding a spin from Riki Rawlins on the last turn, Terry Shelvey following. Despite sounding a little strange, Graham Towner took the all in final as a mid race challenge from Orriss died with his car, with Hepburn following in second unable to catch, and another third for Shelvey.
