BriSCA F2 Stock Cars
Jon Lawrence started with a win at Arena Essex in the BriSCA F2 Stock Car meeting on October 10, a race which saw two controversial crashes, the first bringing reds out when Neal Smith took Willi Peters into the Aveley bend armco banger style, getting him loaded and Willi trying to patch his car enough to race again, an attempt which eventually failed but was appreciated by the fans. The other saw Lawrence burst through a family scrap as Chris Roots and father Tony came together on the back straight, Tony collecting a tractor tyre as he ran out of road. It was Gary Maynards' turn in the second race, with Mick Marr second as he had been in the first, while Tony got the better of Chris this time, something he would do for the rest of the meeting as the 677 car finally gave it up after a fencing early in the final which also saw off Stan Green. Maynard then passed early leader Adrian Blackwell and raced off but with the field closed up after the stop, Tony Roots was in range and in familiar territory, the Arena Essex oval being the site of many of his past Superstox victories. He grabbed second spot around six laps out then gradually reeled Maynard in, then tapped him away on the first corner into the last lap and grabbed his first win at Arena Essex since turning to F2's. This could have been repeated in the Grand National qualifier too had Roots Snr. had more laps, but from a one lap handicap and after another stoppage, he settled for second, giving Maynard his second win on the day.

Ministox
The Ministox were at Arena Essex on October 10 in a crowded meeting and with plenty of support for three heats. Paul Murphy finished an impressive first in the first heat while Colin Cooper ran out of time trying to catch him. Cooper took the next heat ahead of Lee Smith, Murphy settling for third. However the final was a rough affair with several of the front runners dropping out before the end or with black cross penalties, but the winner, Ryan Richards, won fair and square from Lee Smith, while Ray Layton and Vic Bilkey benefited from a two spot penalty on Joe Bullen to get third and fourth.

PRI Banger Teams
It has long been realised that certain meetings will arouse the passions of any race fan. With Bangers, the kind of passions that accompany a team meeting can be especially high, and such was definitely the case at Arena Essex on October 10 as the Suicide Squad and the Custard Creams, both past holders and rivals, met for the fourth time in five years more intent than ever to show each other who exactly was the best. The battle of numbers, however, was evidently won by the Squad - this year playing the part of the challengers - when Sean Collin failed to show up. It was later learned that the reason for his no show was down to the fact that he had become the latest recruit to the Squad! The start of the head to head was notable for a rear end battle of wits as Roy Bramley reversed on the warm up lap, only to leave Buster Woods and Chris Whiteman standing when they reversed to match as the green flag went down! His big hit was an assist on Kev Wilsher on the home straight with John Harding who also took Brian McGuiness on the nose before removing himself from what was left of his car (sorry John!) while Whiteman was taken from behind by Andy Burrough who was done by McGuiness in short order. John Harris soon settled down as the Creams' runner and nearly made it, first with run protection from Phil Stevens who was removed by Frankie Holmes then, with a lap to go, Holmes ambushed Harris by the start/finish line, ripping his axle and ending his run, leaving Stuart Adcock free with only Dave Greenstreet left to oppose, and Frankie did a number on him too. With Tony McDonald needing some medical attention and their pride well bruised as well as some possibly justifiable anger, the Creams quickly evacuated the track as the Suicide Squad did their lap of honour, though some were to make a comeback in the Rawlins qualifier at the end of the meeting.

In the third place playoffs, there was no less fraught as the first heat saw two stoppages including a mid-traffic rollover for Jason Mills, where Bernard Allcock stuck his MG Magnet in the way to protect him as the race rolled to a stop, then Wayne Seago was the cause of the second as he became the filling in a sandwich courtesy of Mark Want and Danny Reid. John McLennan provided the first of a clutch of wins for the Squads' erstwhile enemies, The Rabbits as they took an early lead while Mark Ruskin put his teams' only points on the board in second. Dave Lightbody, a fellow Rabbit, provided some spectacular wrecking earlier in the series, and now proved that he could race as well as he easily jetted home in the second heat, another forty-plus car thriller as the first had been, though this race provided a bit more fluency in the racing. The same could not be said of the consolation which provided the worst of the action as a number of drivers took to the safety area to wreck including Mark Want who continued to wreck well after the reds and only stopped when the start official, Kevin Sebley, physically waved a flag under his nose as tempers frayed badly on and off the track. No less than seven drivers face penalties of one description or another following that incident in race which was otherwise largely forgotten as six drivers took points led by John Roofer of the Gladiators.

It was Lightbody who paced the final, leading through most of the twenty lap event before relinquishing the lead to brother Rabbit Colin Everett while Tony Wade picked up fifth to give the Rabbits the overall third place title for 1999, a massive 62 point haul beating out late challenges from the Menace while the other two Rabbit finalists, McLennan and captain Wayne Prayle played at the back with the other wreckers, Prayle causing some of the turn four clogging, while McLennan did Cowboy Andy Jordan, then spun Lee Witherington, Chris Worthington and Steve Shaw out in one go! The Rabbits and the Squad pretty much sat out the rest of the meeting though Greenstreet, Burrough and Bramley all made the Rawlins 2000 qualifier at the end, the initial wrecking brought to an abrupt halt when Andy Ashman's sorely tried wreck burst into flames on the home straight, the race being turned into a five lap dash after that with a win for the Wreckin Krew's Craig Polley from Jason Jackson and Mick Bradbury, Jackson beating out Lee Caunter for last car running.
