Group A Hot Rods
A busy day at Arena Essex on September 12 for the Group A Hot Rods, with Doug Constable driving a blinder in the first heat for the first win of the day, then new bug Dave Devine pulled his first win, holding fellow newbie Andy Beverton off on the last lap. Billy Groom won out in the consolation after a battle to get past Wes Graves, however the day belonged somewhat controvertially to Devine who completed a heat and final double when he finished behind Beverton who, as a result of an early black cross for contact, was docked one place. Beverton made up for this with a win in the helter-skelter, though his car seemed to be in trouble on the last lap, only just finishing ahead of Richard Haines after pulling a big lead early after a restart when Pete Read crashed out on the Aveley turn.

SuperBangers
Given that the SuperBangers were not in the original line up for the September 12 meeting at Arena Essex, the numbers were very welcome as they helped to fill the programme vacated after the Spedeworth pullout from the planned Banger head to head. Buster Woods made his first race count by grabbing the lead from Shaun Coveney and holding it to the end for the first win, while the main event went the way of Graham Powell who held Woods off while the notable event was the fencing of current champion Jamie Dyckhoff on turn one by Riki Rawlins. Lee Morrow topped out the meeting with a win in the sprint finish race, again at the early expense of Coveney, again with Woods in second.

National Bangers
With the Spedeworth team bash off, the Bangers at Arena Essex had much less to do on September 12 with most of the big drivers away preparing for the impending World Final, leaving a small field to fill the programme. They did their best, Tony McDonald putting in an appearance in full contact gear giving Waz Barber something to think about in the first while Roy Bramley, deprived of his main targets, gave Tom Harding a jacking while Sonny Sherwood outran John Harding to win the race. Bramley was on the offisive again in the main event, giving Chris Clark some few shots towards the end as Paul Whiteman took a win ahead of Sherwood while John Harding notched up another Rawlins 2000 qualifier win in a free entry race which then boiled down to a two car wrecking show between Harding and Phil Stevens, which Stevens conked out on after a couple of hits.
