Bangers and Stocks turn out in force

Plenty of Bangers turned up for the British Qualifier at Mildenhall (April 28) with Colin Appleton almost grabbing heat and final until he was taken out in the final, the win going to track specialist Sonny Sherwood - Davey Cox beat Sherwood out in a thrilling high speed chase in their heat - while Dave Vincent, Sherwood's long time rival and current track champion, did his best not to be outdone by winning the consolation and Accumulator qualifier. As might be expected, with a good turnout comes a good crop of hits, with Ian Laws and Sparky Whittaker doing the business on both turns, although the biggest hit stalled the Accumulator when Sparky picked up Mick South down the home straight the wrong way, jacking him into the oncoming Rob Burbridge coming the other way around the pit bend, South's car folding right up.

The BriSCA F2 Stock Cars also turned out well for a World Qualifier with Andy Gibbs walking his heat, Simon Ricketts winning the consolation after grabbing the front half way and Allan Cooper winning a fraught Grand National qualifier while a real battle exploded behind him. The big winner all around was Gary Fox with a heat and final double, Cooper muffing the last corner in the heat to let Fox through, then a similar story in the final, Martin Ford and Alan Veall both dropping the lead within the last three laps.
