BriSCA F2 Stock Cars
Mick Sworder took the final trophy in the July 29 Arena Essex BriSCA F2 Stock Car meeting, beating off an international line up including a number of drivers not often seen at the Purfleet oval but, no doubt, giving the circuit a tryout before the World Championship, due to take place here in September. Sworder won the restarted final following a pile-up which stopped the race, grabbing the lead inside George Turiccki shortly before half way with James Thackra unable to catch him and having to settle for second spot with Chris Bradbury in third. Thackra would, however, carry off one of the heat trophies, again beating Bradbury to the line in the first heat, while Chris Stephens renewed his acquaintance with the Arena pace car by winning the second heat ahead of Andrew Palmer. Thackra also won the Grand National Qualifier race ahead of Stephens.

Outlaw Hot Rods
It was Dick Burtenshaw all the way in the Outlaw Hot Rods at Arena Essex on July 29. Burtenshaw managed to take control at the start of the meeting final and never lost it despite intense pressure from Richard Simmons throughout the race with Stu Hammond staying close in third. Burtenshaw grabbed pole position in the final following a win in the first race where he managed to burn off Salvo Falcone in the first few laps, then got third in the second heat as Alan White suffered the wrath of the steward after he spun Roy Rawlins late in the race following a gruelling battle for third, Gary Stow unable to quite get past eventual winner Simmons.

Bangers
Another banger meeting, another double win for Jason "Boxer Jack" Jackson at Arena Essex on July 29. Jackson took a quiet final restart following the smearing of Craig Oliver across the pit fence and a wrecking for day licence driver Aaron Eastwell, Jackson pulling past John Seex and dashing away to victory with Gary Brown in third spot. Jackson also beat Seex to the line in the second heat which featured a massive, if curiously non-destructive head on between Ian Smith and Karl "Blacknuts" Douglas on the pit bend, while the first heat seemed likely to go to Andy Reynolds until he was spun off the pace, Lee Hughes rodding to the line while the wreckage all shifted to turn two including one up the diff for Sonny Sherwood, a big change for him following his second place finish in the British Banger Championship the previous evening.
