Ministox
It was a highly competitive meeting for the Ministox topped off with a close win for Vinni Madden in the meeting final at Arena Essex on Bank Holiday Monday, April 9. Vinni had been trying to win all day, finishing third in the first heat behind early leader Jack Bunning and eventual winner Jack Wheelwright, then came second behind a determined run from the front by white top driver Billy Hull, while third place was decided following a three way pile up which got Tom Waller his best finish of the day. Meanwhile Wheelwright took a second win in the third heat, having a hard battle with Jimmy Galloway and Liam Friel, the lead contested a number of times, most notably when the three had to pass Tom Korpiela. The final was dominated early on by Bunning but, late in the race, he was passed by Wheelwright and Madden, the two battling hard for the line which Madden grabbed right at the end.

Group A Hot Rods
Dave Lamb is still looking for a victory this year in the Group A Hot Rods at Arena Essex, unable to catch up with Chris Smith in the meeting final on April 9 despite another amazing drive from the back. The first race had to be called after in incident on the home straight where Pip Brookes suddenly acquired a passenger in the form of Brian Davidson, the race being awarded to Michael Outen, then the second heat fell easily to Mike Collins who had looked promising in the first heat but had pulled out shortly after taking the lead with mechanical problems. Smith had no trouble in the final, Lamb held back by Chris Selleck and Lee Hall for a short time, giving Smith time aplenty to race home.

Banger Teams
The Gravesend Condoms raced home for another team win in the first PRI Banger Teams qualifier at Arena Essex on April 9 in a contact free final which saw Jason Jackson rod home first for the defending team, the Midnight Runners before a whole host of pink cars. The heats, however, were of far more interest to the bank holiday crowd as the Gladiator and Bad Company teams went at each other in the continuation of their long-running war, the biggest hit being Clark Wells on Kelly Wilson in the second heat. The Condom took the overall team win by 94 points, the Runners in second with 87 points and the Gigglers with their best ever finish in third place with 32 points.

Rawlins Qualifier
Jason Jackson took the April 9 Rawlins qualifier while second place Matt Fuller shared the last car award with team mate Ricky Korpiela.
