National Bangers - Brian Orgles Memorial
|
The 2003 Brian Orgles Memorial meeting for the National Bangers at Arena Essex, August 10, played to a good turnout, sweltering under a hot sun which, towards the end, suddenly succumbed to a freak cloudburst. This didn't affect the main racing too much with the two opening banger races being taken by team mates Harry Rawlins and Paul Whiteman, Rawlins winning out in a race that was delayed somewhat after another Runner, Matt Fuller, received a monstrous jacking in a pile up that occupied much of the outside of turn one, while Whiteman outpaced Andy Davies, some tail ender interference also serving to keep the race interesting. Billy Lee provided the win in the consolation ahead of Nicky Wenhold and Len Brinkley. |

The main race would possibly have gone to Wenhold who had a good lead until he fell victim to Elliott Dobson, Dobson removing the early leader from the result short of the half way point, leaving the lead to change hands a few times but eventually falling to Jimmy Randall, Sonny Sherwood unable to close the gap before the end of the race while Jason Jackson went in for a little early wrecking. Davies was slowly falling apart, dropping back down the order and only finishing with the help of brother Shane who picked him up and pushed him home, Rawlins elevated to third with team rival Phil Stevens in fourth. That just left a Rawlins 2000 Qualifier that pretty much went to the usual wrecking session, Richard Blake winning the race before the destruction section left Boxer Jack and Danny Brown in pretty much the same degree of distress, the last car award split between them. |

1300 Stock Cars Barry Radcliffe continued to show promise with another win early in the August 10 meeting at Arena Essex, managing to keep ahead of Clark Wells, though Andrew Palmer took the overall final win easily with Colin Thorndyke also keeping up a reasonable line of form in second. James Avison, newly up from the Ministox, also did well with fourth in the warm up, third in the final and a win in the last race, with good performances in all three races. |

Outlaw Hot Rods The Outlaw Hot Rods were making good time in the hot weather of the August 10 Arena Essex meeting. Roy Rawlins managed some good performances, leading the first race for the majority of its length, holding Trevor Bibby at bay for an early win with Fred Smith behind in a ten car finish. The final could easily have gone the same way but some closing stage action allowed Chris Woods to sneak through on the inside while Bibby was contending with a number of challenges including Stu Hammond, three laps out. The last race of the day saw some opportunist moves by veteran rodder Alan White pay off giving him the last win of the day which, from the look on his face as he took the lap of honour, he was as surprised about as anyone! |
