Roy Thomas "Chick" Woodroffe died just after the end of the 2000 season. He lived a full life, and that is pretty good for someone that had to face many difficulties. He wasn't one to back down from any of them, however, as many would agree who knew him. He was one of the major figures behind short oval racing in this country, from his early days in Speedway and Stock Cars before making the step into promoting - co-promoting Kings' Lynn to the formation of Promotasport Raceways to the construction and eventual purchase of Arena Essex. His enthusiasm never wavered, even to the point of getting others interested in the sport.

The Festival of Speed was always meant to be a high point in the PRI calendar. Once raced at Brands Hatch, the meeting has nestled comfortably into the annual Arena Essex schedule for many years now, though within the last decade the contact element has been dialled down with emphasis placed more on the actual speed. PRI haven't been afraid to experiment with this meeting, both in the length and the content, which has included Caravan racing, American cars, all Jaguar racing, Superstox teams and in 2001, Reliants. Returning to a more classic format in 2002, the meeting features major events for all senior non-contact formulas plus the 1300 Saloon Stock Cars and the PRI Superbangers, along with a return for the Reliants.
