In brief

Andrew Davies took the PRI/ORC Banger World Championship title at the 31st running of the event at Arena Essex on September 16, holding off a strong challenge from defending Drivers' Champion Sonny Sherwood. Davies got lucky with the draw, starting on the front row and avoiding many of the collisions behind him, while Sherwood had to pull through from further back, almost grabbing the lead towards the end before fading off. Another promising local, Lee West, came in third having held off a challenge from west country traveller Shane Brown in a nine car finish.

The 1300 Stock Car Supreme Championship, held on the same day, went to Darren Cardy, who made it home ahead of champion driver Andy Brown and formula specialist Steve Davies. Cardy would also eventually win in the Allcomers' "Helter-Skelter" race.
