| PRI vs. RDC 30 car Banger Challenge Round
1 Lightning Rods 1300cc Stock Cars |
|
Bangers
RDC beat Promotasport in the first round of the interpromotional
team Banger Challenge at Arena Essex on April 15 following a
massive destruction final that saw Stu Scarlett, from near
Yarmouth, clinch it for the visitors after he took on Carl Howard
of Mayland who finished the race in flames. PRI had dropped
behind during the second heat when Shaun McMillan led a number of
the Mildenhall visitors home with only Steve Laybourn in a place,
the teams fighting to a standstill in the first heat.
Roy Laybourn, who had raced for the RDC team, was the only member of that team to feature in the Rawlins 2000 Qualifier and was quickly disposed of by Stuart Palmer, while Jason Jackson took on Nathan Roberts before fighting it out with Ricky Korpiela at the end, Jackson winning the race but forfeiting the last car title by attacking from the centre.
1300 Stock Cars
Phil Wise took a triple at the 1300cc Stock Car meeting at Arena
Essex on April 15. Wise took both heats, the first at the expense
of Mark Browne after early leader, Deborah Whiteman, spun herself
on the pit bend, while the second heat fell easily, Neal Gardiner
surviving a spin attempt by Chigwell‘s Darren Pratt on turn
one, allowing Paul Haralambou to sneak past for third place. He
then managed to cruise home in the final, a race made tricky with
multiple oil spillages following the banger race immediately
before.
Lightning Rods
A heat and final double went to Alfie Smith in the Lightning Rods
in their domestic meeting at Arena Essex on April 15. Smith
managed the closest win of the day, grabbing the inside line from
Dave Imber out of the last corner before the line in the second
heat. Imber, who was docked in that heat for contact, had won the
earlier heat ahead of Lee Millham following a contact incident
that sent race leader Carl Banks of Chelmsford down the order out
of the pit bend. Smith later inherited the lead in the final when
early leader Lee Millham pulled out of the race. Smith was then
left to hold off Richard Pannell and Mark Mackenzie, both former
World title holders, to the line.
