Plastengrave Non-Ford Bangers
Ladies Banger Championship qualifier Group A Hot Rods Groom Motorsport Supreme Qualifier/Jim Richards Memorial |
|
| In Brief |
The Arena Essex June 16 meeting was a welcome change from the previous week in that, although it tried hard to rain, it had no real effect on the day.
The meeting started, as is customary with Plastengrave Racing days, with action from the Ladies which saw a convincing win for Amanda Harris ahead of Tricia Walmer and Mandy Cheeseman. However this would not be the last of Ms. Harris that we would see that day, adding to the win in the Ladies qualifier with another win in the main consolation race and another in the curtailed Rawlins qualifier, certain a good points haul.
The meeting final saw another win for Matt Fuller, who has been putting in some good performances this year, followed by team-mate and former squaddie John Randall, with heat wins for Mark Woolner and Stuart Allen. The meeting ended in tragedy, however, when a multiple pile-up at the top of the home straight resulted in the race being abandoned.

Darren Clement continued to dominate the Yokohama Tyres championship with a final win in the Group A Groom Motorsport Supreme Qualifier, which was also the inaugural Jim Richards Memorial. Jim, an ardent enthusiast and long running Group A driver who introduced the Canvey Corsa to the previously Starlet dominated formula, died almost a year ago, this meeting being dedicated to his memory by his family who attended this meeting and awarded the trophy following the final, which Clement won after overcoming long time leader, Wes Graves. Dennis Howes and Dom Tomlinson put in heat wins and Darren Read took the consolation honours, with Steve Gooch becoming the final Group A Festival qualifier winner. |
