We refer to the checks that we do on cars to make sure they conform to the rules of Banger racing as scrutineering. You'll notice that many of the cars pictured, for example, have no bonnets (or for you Merkan visitors, hoods). The actual rules for the preparation of Bangers are somewhat complex, but basically it involves stripping all glass and plastic fittings, fitting a water tank to replace the radiator, various safety features such as internal fuel lines and cut outs and so forth. We also check overalls, gloves and crash helmets and make sure that no naughty extra bits have been added...
