Group A Hot Rods
Another good turnout for the Group A Hot Rods on April 9 at Arena Essex, starting with a good win for Jason Villa from the front in the first heat while Vic Hope made a good bid for the front only to be held out by the eventual winner Barry Parker. The consolation was packed with big names of old, and ex-champion Terry Bearman showed that he still had the will to win, Gary Finch going second to pick up some points that seem hard to come by last years' big noise, seemingly still trying to get used to his new Corsa. Clinton Groom was dominant early on in the final but after Dean White and Mark Browne passed him, Groom seemed to go potty, earning a load up for spinning Browne close to home. White took the win with Parker and Kevin Downs in tow. Parker then went on to take a second win in the helter skelter race by getting past Adam Smith in a quick restart after Colin Kirk got stuck on the back straight. Browne tried hard to grab first spot but ran out of time at the last, back markers coming into play.

Ladies Bangers
A late start this year for the Ladies Banger Championship on April 9 at Arena Essex, and Trina Wade showed her experience from the back to carve through to the front of the 29 car start for the first heat win, Elise Allen being the half way leader but not fast enough to stay clear of Wade, so settling for second with Tina Roberts in third.

Plastengrave Bangers
It isn't often that someone enters a Fiesta as a Banger. It is even rarer to see one actually win something. At Arena Essex on April 9, Mick Bradbury did both in the first Plastengrave Banger heat with the fourth turn taking its toll of the cars. The 38 car second heat had plenty to talk about as former Unlimited World Champion and visiting East Anglian Gary Madgwick managed to dodge everything to win while home boy John Harding missed Magic only to land an awesome head on halfway down the home straight, embedding himself in the oncoming Dan Reid car! Race three went the way of Greg Cheeseman by half a lap from Paul Eve before Del Waterman managed to roll in the middle of a developing pile up to halt the consolation, the restart going to Mark Bunting ahead of Graham Heywood making his first visit this year from Buxton. The final was another stalled affair, stopping Clive Killick mid blitz as he took on Adny Davies and Dean Conyard. The race went the way of Daktari Dale Atkins ahead of Jamie Wilders, while Dave Truman spun third spot Steve Witherington across the line. Truman then went on to take the Rawlins race despite Jason Jackson's best shot which took Mark Ruskin out of the picture, Truman and Wilders stuffing themselves out to leave Neil Partridge as last car running.
