Ringwood challenge, Saturday, 18th. July, 1998

Sorry, this is very rough but given the time and the fact that I literally
walked in the door...

The whole thing was preceded by a lot of haggling since it was found that
many Ringwood cars were illegal. However something was worked out and both
teams took the field, separated into two groups of 15 in each heat, two
races per heat. Both of the first heat races went down to last car
running, in both cases a PRI car winning, both heats restarted several times
as hit after hit went in. The second heat races were unbalanced in that the Ringwood
team was more numerous in the first race, while PRI outstripped them in th
second with predictable consequences. However it was clear when the
allcomers' final was lined up that Ringwood had taken more hits and were
suffering. As a result, the Arena cars finished them off and sprinted for
the line led by Alan Trickett with Tony Wade, Phil Hudson and a very bent
Dave Barwick in tow while Carl Overy mopped up the mess via the rather
overused infield (seemingly Ringwood don't view their infield as PRI do,
and anything goes). Andy Burrough was also running at the end. Result; PRI
win!

A great meeting, and Ringwood were no pushover as the first heats
especially showed, but PRI had the edge in the end. With that all done,
the drivers besieged the Fleet Services to perform the bacon slapping
routine (ask Roy Rawlins about that one!) before many of them headed home
or up to Swaffham for the big Sunday bash.
